Something's missing

My mom came and visited me in Boston the past few days to help me with a few things. Despite my missing mind we did have some fun and good food.

My husband went missing last week, but he's not the only thing I'm missing...

Saturday- Missing ticket booth.

Our plan for my mom's first day here was to do a duck tour-- the classic way to get to know Boston by land and water. We got up early to go get tickets.... and the ticket booth wasn't there. Turns out they don't do duck tours in the winter. So... we got some Starbucks and wandered around a bit until the rest of the world was awake. Then we headed over to the Museum of Fine Arts. We thought tickets were going to be $22 each, but thanks to Justin's service we both got in for free! Like many art museums in major cities, this one is huge, and you can't possibly see it all in a day. The highlights we hit were some Monet paintings and Tiffany stained glass. Instead of a duck tour we did our own driving tour of Boston, ending with a walk around Harvard yard.

Sunday- Missing phone.

On Sunday night we went out for dinner in the North End- the Italian neighborhood in Boston. We had some delicious pasta and red wine at Maurizio's, a little Sardinian Restaurant. Afterwards, we went to Mike's Pastry to get cannolis (an essential part of touring Boston). My mom says they don't have Vacarro's beat out, but I think I just need to keep trying all the pastry shops until I can decide. I noticed at dinner that my phone wasn't in my purse, but thought I might have left it at home. It wasn't at home either. I think I left it in the cab on the way to dinner.

Monday- Missing time.

On Monday we drove 2 cars down to the sub base in Connecticut so that I could drop off my car in the deployed parking lot. Moving 2 cars twice a week was causing me a little anxiety (see post about towing and tickets...) While we were there we stopped by the USS Nautilus museum and had lunch in Mystic. I was hoping we would have more time for some relaxation, but we had to get back for a vet appointment for Roxy (which we ended up being 40 minutes late for as it was!) We had a late dinner at Island Creek Oyster Bar, which was very good. I told my mom she was required to try oysters and a lobster roll before leaving Boston, and she complied (although not so willingly on the oysters!)

beautiful day in Groton

Tuesday- Missing car.

Monday night we moved my mom's car to a meter. We got up early to go feed the meter, and... no car. You would think I had learned to read all the signs by now!!! Fortunately by this point I knew exactly where the car was and how to get it. The guy at the tow shop was a huge jerk (we didn't tow his car did we?) but we got the car and went on our way to Starbucks and the AT&T store. Word of advice: authorized retailers are much more helpful than the real AT&T stores. The AT&T store wasn't going to let me do anything, but the authorized retailer gave me a free loaner phone to use while they ordered me a new phone.

this thing doesn't even have T9

Today- missing dog.

Roxy had to leave with my mom yesterday. We were lucky she was able to stay at my apartment as long as she did, but she has much more space to run around now that she's in Maryland. And I will get to visit her when I go home for Easter!
